Inner Child Regression Therapy

1. What is the Inner Child?
The Inner Child (our authentic self) represents innocence, joy, wonder, awe, playfulness and sensitivity. Abuse, neglect, fear and misunderstanding can cause the Inner Child to be suppressed. Through childhood trauma, individuals take on negative beliefs about themselves and our Inner Child is rejected, neglected, denied and/or abandoned, as it can’t function in the world honestly. Disassociation with the Inner Child causes us to become “stuck” in our psychological development. We may have matured biologically but we have not developed psychologically at the same pace.

3. What is Inner Child Regression Therapy?
The goal of Inner Child Regression Therapy is for clients to identify what needs weren’t met during childhood and “reparent” themselves to provide whatever previously lacked. This helps break cycles of negative self-talk and self-sabotage. It’s important for us to link the events of childhood to our current situations. Therapists can help recognise where patterns of behaviour came from and how the present ties to the past.
The following behaviours can be a result of childhood trauma:
-
Workaholism
-
Over / Under Eating
-
Perfectionism
-
Obsessive Behaviour
-
Addiction
-
Aggression
-
Promiscuity

Through hypnotherapy, we safely guide your Inner Child through these childhood experiences. Your adult self will then have the opportunity to meet him/her and validate and comfort them. Seeing the Inner Child as a separate entity, helps us disconnect from harsh, judgemental, adult feelings and tap into the empathy and compassion we would have for a suffering child.
Together, we implement new habits and techniques to heal the Inner Child, replacing old, unhelpful ways of thinking and functioning.
After being reunited with the Inner Child, clients are able to identify where they are acting in their best interest and where they are acting out of former childhood trauma. This level of awareness brings the client a great deal of power in facilitating their own reparenting and healing process. In connecting with our Inner Child, we may be able to explore new goals and desires of the authentic self. This may give us a greater sense of purpose and meaning in life.
